Some time ago – Grayson-Riley Audiology supplied me with a Siemens pair of hearing aids. This was great but I found I was taking them off quite frequently as they could not adapt to the various sound conditions that is experienced in day to day living. They could change marginally, but with difficulty.

Then, thanks to Grayson-Riley Audiology my wife heard of this “remote controller” and gave it to me as a present

Now I wear my hearing aids all day – every day.

The remote has been tuned to give me 3 programmes, but I believe there are more that can be obtained which could suit a person’s special needs.

The first programme is just an increase for all sound.

The second – is directed mainly in front of you – ideal for watching television,

stage shows, or movies etc.

The third (my favourite), is as I regard it an umbrella of sound which covers 360deg. around me, but with a smaller radius. I use this when I play golf as it helps me keep in touch with my playing partners (with ease), but reduces all the general noise on the golf course.

With the remote, which I mostly keep in my pocket, I can, with a push of a button without being seen and without any effort:

1) Change programmes

2) Change volume – there are 8 degrees of sound

3) Or if everything is too noisy, turn it off completely “ALL BY THE PUSH OF A BUTTON”

There is only one fault – the ear pieces are so comfortable, and the “remote” makes it so easy to change to different sound conditions that I forget I am wearing them, and have been known to have a shower or even swim without removing them first.

They are THE BEST.

After many years of knowing she had a hearing problem my mother was recently fitted with hearing aids by Steve from Grayson-Riley Audiology.

I still can’t believe the difference it has made to my mother’s hearing. Mum’s hearing has improved so much that during the evening on the day of the fitting she caught me muttering under my breath at the dinner table! And the next day a large group of us went out for breakfast at a cafe and mum was stunned that for the first time in years she could hear all the conversation – including the grandkids.

Mum found it particularly helpful taking to a hearing aid wearer and commented that during the consultation and fitting with Steve he often answered her many questions before she got to ask them.

We would recommend Steve from Grayson-Riley Audiology to anyone who is considering hearing aids.

After several consultations and follow ups with 2 other Brisbane Audiologists and finally finding Steve at Grayson-Riley Audiology, I am absolutely astounded with the precise, accurate and professional understanding of my hearing problem. At 71 years of age and suffering more than 24 years of significant hearing problems that have been very detrimental to any personal discussion even with my closest family and any relationships, the diagnosis of my problem and precise selection by Steve of the correct hearing aid fitting has now caused these problems to cease. I am 300% happy!

Although I don’t have a severe hearing loss, I was aware that I was ‘missing’ sections of conversation, especially in social situations where there was background noise.  I was also continually asking my wife to interpret the dialogue in television programmes.

The first aids I was prescribed were the type that had moulds in the ear canal. Although they helped with the television problem, they cut me off from the normal sounds I had been used to hearing and made me feel somewhat claustrophobic.  Twelve months later I was introduced to the new ‘open fit’ style of hearing aid and my life changed completely.

I now look forward to putting my aids on in the mornings and they are so unobtrusive and comfortable that I have been known to forget they are there and to get in the shower whilst still wearing them!  I can hear everything in a ‘normal’ fashion whilst the aids compensate for and enhance the frequencies I was losing.

One of the most positive experiences has been dealing with the professionals at my local practice.  Their friendly, relaxed, but totally professional approach gives me the utmost confidence in their recommendations of ways to achieve the ultimate hearing satisfaction.  The audiologist, himself a long-term hearing aid wearer, has a particular understanding of how to encourage his clients to get the most from the latest technology.  The audiometrist’s background in nursing makes her the ideal person to respond appropriately to the individual needs and concerns of each client.  She treats each one with sympathy and the expertise required for his or her circumstances.

I would encourage people of any age to have a hearing test, even if they don’t feel they need it yet.  The results will give a baseline reading for future comparison.  Like everything else, if you don’t use it you lose it and the earlier you help your ears (and your brain) to process sounds to the fullest, the longer you will retain optimum hearing.
